Former Hawkesbury cricketer Stephen O’Keefe took seven wickets for New South Wales after being left out of the Australian test squad for the final game against New Zealand.
O’Keefe was touted as a possible inclusion in the Australian team, but selectors opted to go for three quicks, leaving O’Keefe free to play for New South Wales.
New South Wales hosted Queensland in the Sheffield Shield and were glad to have O’Keefe’s services, as the spinner took three wickets in the first innings and four in the second.
Queensland scored 259 and 145 in their innings, and New South Wales was easily able to chase down the score in the final innings of the game.
He also chipped in 13 with the bat in the first innings, but was not required to strap on his pads in the second innings, as New South Wales cruised to a seven wicket victory.
The two teams will play again this week, starting on Sunday in Mackay.
