Richmond became 1940s small-town American on Monday morning, complete with fire hydrant outside Bennett’s on Windsor Street, and West Market Street full of old cars and people dressed in the fashions of 75 years ago.
Old wartime propaganda posters were plastered on the side of Bennett’s building, the Westpac building was an old cinema, and the public phones outside the old courthouse were transformed into an old fibro fruit stall.
West Market Street was covered with grey dust to cover the pedestrian crossing, and huge piles of autumn leaves had been brought in to blow across the streets.
Residents rubbernecked on the sidelines, lifting countless phones to document the filming, while the Gazette spotted Mel Gibson, who is directing the film, down the side of Westpac early this morning with the camera crew.
