Richmond business owners’ concerns have been calmed by a meeting with the film crew for the film Hacksaw Ridge.
Part of Richmond will be closed from Friday, November 27, until Wednesday, December 2, so that filming of the move can take place.
Small business owners from Windsor Street met with members of the film crew on Friday morning at 10am at Richmond Park to discuss their concerns.
While there was initially a lot of concern about street closures along Windsor Street by the business owners, particularly concerning parking, the meeting proved a fruitful one, and both sides came away happy.
Les Bailey, who owns All Camping Richmond, was very concerned when he was first approached by the filming crew, but said after the meeting he was happy with the outcome.
“What I was concerned about was the short notice given and the extend of the closures,” he said.
“Now that they’ve explained it, that is fine, it is about as good as you can expect.
‘No one is against filming but these businesses are people’s livelihoods.”
Parts of Windsor and West Market streets will be closed during the filming, with the biggest disruptions on Tuesday.
Traffic will be stopped by lollipop men at various times from Monday to Wednesday, to keep modern cars out of the picture of the film, which will be set in the 1940s.
The streets will be open to the public, but diversions will be in place, to ensure people do not make it into the camera frame.
On Tuesday, part of Windsor Street will be closed, and some street side parking will be unavailable.
Parts of the car park behind Orange Grove Mall will also be closed off, so the film crew can park their vehicles.
Hawkesbury Council said parking inspectors will conduct their business as normal.
