THE popular gym equipment at Richmond’s Ham Common will soon be among the most accessible in the state, with the installation of additional wheelchair friendly machines.
Hawkesbury Council received a grant through Liveable Communities to install the additional fitness equipment.
The machines will allow wheelchair bound community members to enjoy outdoor activities and the fitness equipment which will complement what already exists in the park.
Council’s director of infrastructure services, Jeff Organ said the additional equipment was an asset to the community.
“We believe this new equipment will make Ham Common amongst the best accessible parks in NSW, and is a great asset for the Hawkesbury community,” Mr Organ said.
“We aim to have these new facilities in Ham Common completed and available for use by the end of the week.”
Eight new fitness machines are being installed, these include; a disabled upper and low body warm up machine, disabled hand twirl, disabled arm extension, disabled flat walker, disabled arm swinger, and a disabled leg trainer.
The existing equipment at Ham Common is not being removed and is still in operation.
