More than one million dollars is expected to be spent on greyhound pups on Sunday at the biggest event of the year for Richmond Race Club.
The Richmond Riches Puppy Auction will receive all day coverage on Sky Racing 2.
The auction will feature nearly 400 puppies and will bring an influx of money into the local greyhound scene, with the club, trainers and owners all set to benefit.
Club general manager Brad Adam said the auction was a massive event for the club.
“Last year’s auction put the club back on the map of having a focal point and feature event,” he said.
The puppies which are sold, will take part in a race series in 2017, something, which makes the auction and eventual race series unique to the club.
Adam said the club had fielded calls from the United Kingdom and New Zealand about the auction.
“Our vendors are far and wide. A lot of them are from the Hawkesbury area, so the influx in funds and money to the local trainers and community is a great deal,” Adam said.
“Last year, there was more than $1 million in sales, which far surpassed any of the expectations that the club had.
“This year looks to be just as strong and if not better with a huge interest in the auction going forward.”
