An unbeaten 82 by wicket-keeper Corey Lowe has guided Hawkesbury Cricket Club’s first grade to a defendable total.
The Hawks were bowled out for 281 by Sutherland in Sydney Grade Cricket at the weekend.
In reply, Sutherland was 1/39, with former Australian vice-captain Shane Watson at the crease on one not out.
The Hawks won the toss and went in to bat, after being forced to chase a number of times in previous rounds.
However, despite winning the toss, Hawkesbury was kept in check by Sutherland’s attack.
Lowe top scored with 82 not out, while Dale McKay also made a half-century, before being dismissed for 67.
McKay’s opening partner Brent Atherton made 40, in what has been a good season for the young player, however, the rest failed to make big scores.
The two teams will finish the match on Saturday.
The Hawks will need to bowl well, but are in a position to claim a win, if things work out on their favour.
