OFFICIAL Schoolies Week celebrations kick off around the state from the weekend, with many Hawkesbury teens heading to beach locations, the Gold Coast and overseas to celebrate the end of HSC exams.
Local friends Lara Petrie and Rebeccah Miller are joining ten of their friends in Jervis Bay for the week next week, where they will kick back and relax from what has been a busy exam schedule.
Both Lara from Londonderry and Rebeccah from Richmond say they were never interested in heading to the Gold Coast for the official Schoolies Week celebrations, instead opting for a quiet holiday home on the beach.
“From what we have heard Schoolies week is pretty crazy at the Gold Coast,” Lara said.
“A lot of dangerous stuff happens like kids falling from balconies.”
“We just wanted to chill and relax and we had been told Jervis Bay was a good place to go,” Rebeccah added.
For those heading to the Gold Coast to celebrate the end of school, organisers of Schoolies Week 2015 are urging everyone to enjoy their time responsibly.
The Queensland Government Safer Schoolies Initiative provides a range of free support services to help improve safety for school leavers visiting the Gold Coast during November 21-27.
Visit www.schoolies.qld.gov.au for more information about how to get your compulsory Schoolies wristband, the Schoolies Hub, safety tips and much more.
“Remember be safe and watch your mates, and ensure that your Schoolies experience is exactly what you hoped for,” organisers said.
