THEY scored perfect tens from all four judges, but it wasn’t enough to snatch a podium finish in this years Red Bull Billy Cart Competition at Centennial Park on Sunday.
Hawkesbury’s entry in the race, the Back to the Future Delorean, was a clear crowd favourite which had the backing of many supporters decked out in Back to the Future team shirts for the event.
Team mates James Hodder and David Reimer executed a perfect ride around the course, making it to the finish line without so much as a scratch or bump.
Despite four tens from the judges for creativity and design, their time let them down, leaving them outside the top 10.
In all the men couldn’t have been happier with the experience, saying they gave it absolutely everything.
“We achieved everything we set out to achieve over the past couple of months from the design through to construction and then the race on Sunday,” Mr Hodder said.
“We had an absolute blast and we were given so much support from the crowd and our friends and family.”
Mr Hodder said the experience of crossing the finish line to thousands of screaming fans, before having microphones and cameras shoved in their face was surreal. He said he felt like they had their ten minuets of fame.
The Back to the Future Delorean was one of just 60 designs selected to be built for the race, which attracted thousands of entries from across the country.
The winning cart on the day, Steel Team 32’s ‘Harbour Bridge’, was the only other team to have scored perfect tens from the judges besides the Delorean, but added to their score with a faster lap time.
Mr Hodder said he and Mr Reimer were considering selling the Delorean on ebay to raise money for charity.
