THE Hawkesbury and Districts Basketball Association honoured its best and brightest at the association’s awards presentation night on Friday, September 18.
The association had a solid representative season, with all junior teams making it to the finals of the Basketball NSW Waratah Junior Metro League.
The two men’s teams in the Waratah League were chances of making the finals but ultimately fell short.
Junior girl’s player Lily Newbould and men’s youth league player Liam Moss were given ambassadorial roles for the association.
Association president Peter Herrmann said the pair would be the ‘‘faces of the association’’.
‘‘They are our equivalent of Patty Mills and Lauren Jackson,’’ he said.
‘‘They are both well spoken and good players and they present well and put stuff back into the association.
‘‘We had several to choose from which was really nice, but they’ll be the two faces of Hawkesbury junior basketball.’’
Evan Hine took out the senior men’s association award for club spirit.
Hine coached the under-22 youth league men’s team during the season, and also played in the division one men’s team.
Patrick O’Toole and Lily Newbould (pictured) were presented with the men’s and women’s junior association award for club spirit respectively.
Herrmann said the club did away with the Most Valuable Player award this season, and created the Club Spirit award.
‘‘We made it not necessarily the MVP but a representative player who also puts work back into the association,’’ he said.
‘‘Whether it is coaching or junior development or other things where they actively work in the association.
‘‘It is a quality player who has been involved in other respects.’’
Stephen Toohey was named Representative Referee of the year.
