HAWKESBURY Cricket Club’s Arjun Nair is determined to continue to develop as a cricketer after returning from a tour of England with the Australian under-19 cricket team.
Nair trialled with Hawkesbury at Bensons Lane on September 12 with the rest of his team mates, and presumably will feature prominently for the club this season.
Nair played in three one-day matches with the Australian team on its recent tour against England.
He was named man of the match on debut when he took four wickets to help Australia win the game.
He finished the tour with six wickets in the three games, and made six runs, although was only required to bat twice and both times was not out after coming in down the order.
Nair, 17, said he had to continue to get better as a player, and not rest on his laurels.
‘‘I was happy with how I went, but I want to keep improving every day,’’ he said.
‘‘I went well but there is still room for improvement.’’
The all-rounder said he really enjoyed the tour, which lasted for about a month over August.
‘‘Yeah it was pretty fun. It was a good experience with the conditions there and getting to meet new players and see how they go about their business,’’ he said.
Nair said he was able to take a few things away from the tour which would help improve his game now that he was back in Australia.
‘‘I think more backing myself is the key [was one of the main things]. When times are tough just to keep backing myself,’’ he said.
‘‘Obviously it gives me more experience and more skills to work with.
‘‘Getting more experience playing in different conditions helps me to improve my own game.’’
