THERE were two hat-tricks in round one of the Hawkesbury District Cricket Association competition. Glossodia’s Jamie Cruickshank claimed one in the first grade, while North Richmond’s Matthew Bownas claimed one in the fourth grade. Unsurprisingly, both teams won, thanks in part to the efforts of Cruickshank and Bownas. Cruickshank finished with figures of five wickets for 16 runs from Bligh Park Blue’s first batting innings, while Bownas had five wickets for 13 runs.
FORMER Windsor Wolves player Lachlan Coote and the North Queensland Cowboys will play in the NRL grand final this weekend. The Cowboys easily accounted for the Melbourne Storm at the weekend and will line up against the Brisbane Broncos in the first all Queensland grand final. Coote has been in fine form for the Cowboys this season, and has helped set up plenty of tries, while providing safe hands at fullback. Fellow ex-Wolves player Reagan Campbell-Gillard lined up at the weekend for the Prime Minister’s XIII against Papua New Guinea. It was a reward for a stellar debut season for Campbell-Gillard with the Penrith Panthers. The PM’s XII defeated the Kumuls 40-12 in front of a larger than capacity crowd at Port Moresby.
GODOLPHIN owned Vashka won a $175,000 group two race at Rosehill Gardens at the weekend. The John O’Shea trained gelding won by a nose and claimed $105,000 for the win. It was the seventh win of the five year old’s career, and was its first since January. Tony McEvoy’s Scherzoso also raced on the weekend and was sixth over a 2000-metre 80 benchmark.
RICHMOND Golf Club is so serious about getting more women playing golf, the club is offering five free lessons to anyone interested in taking up the sport. The lessons will be in October, and will be for 15 women. For more information call 4578 2272 and ask for Nigel Hamilton at the pro-shop.
