STUDENTS at St John’s Primary School in Riverstone dressed up as their favourite characters for Book Week.
Last Wednesday fun was in the air with pupils and teachers alike, including deputy principal, Jason Fisher, who dressed as a clown.
The Book Week 2015 theme was ‘Books Light Up our World’ which, school secretary Melissa Youell, said excited the children and lit up their world.
As Dr Seuss says: ‘‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go’’.
And Ms Youell couldn’t agree more. ‘‘We always encourage the kids to read, no matter how young they are,’’ she said.
‘‘Reading allows them to gain knowledge about a whole range of topics. Whether it’s a picture book with a meaning behind it or a book filled with words, full of information. Kids are great at soaking it all up.’’
Ms Youell said the event was meaningful to both students and staff. ‘‘It’s great to see the teachers get so involved every year,’’ she said.
‘‘A variety of teachers dressed in costume. One of the most quirky styles were the stage 1 teachers who dressed as the Scooby-Doo gang.’’
Ms Youell said Book Week is a great community spirited event.
‘‘The kids took part in a giant book parade and the parents were invited for a picnic lunch.
‘‘It’s an event that the kids can remember forever and look forward to every year,’’ she said.
