WHEN Rita Holmes hit 99 kilograms she decided enough was enough and set about doing something about it.
Three months later she was 83 kilograms and feeling the best she had in quite a while.
Holmes, from Cumberland Reach, said losing weight was one of the best things she had done for herself.
‘‘I just felt so much better afterwards, and my self-esteem was just so much better,’’ she said.
Holmes said when she realised how much she weighed she was determined not to reach 100 kilograms, and found out about a program the YMCA ran.
The program offered 12 weeks of free personal training, and Holmes said she was more than happy to sign up for it.
‘‘I really needed the encouragement ... that was what I needed,’’ she said.
‘‘I am terrible. I start something but think I can’t do it, so I needed that push.’’
Holmes said the personal training was exactly what she needed to help motivate her to lose weight.
‘‘We had a personal trainer twice a week. The trainers gave us support and if we needed to do anything the trainer would give us help and encouragement,’’ she said.
‘‘My trainer was really good because she helped me work around my injuries to help me lose weight.’’
YMCA Hawkesbury Oasis assistant manager Chelsea O’Connor said the YMCA would give away three months of free gym and personal training to 12 people this year.
She said it would start from September 12 and nominations for the program were due by September 6.
‘‘We ask for nominations from the community for people who deserve a chance at better health, ’’she said.
