A 50-year-old woman was rescued from the Hawkesbury River on Friday after she went into the river while she was fully clothed just after 2pm.
The woman, of no fixed address, is alleged to have entered the river while in an intoxicated state.
Police believe she entered the water from an area on The Terrace side of the Hawkesbury River, opposite Macquarie Park.
A witness had contacted emergency services after he saw her struggling in the water.
Two Hawkesbury police officers were first to respond and tried to assist her by doing a near vertical drop close to the river bank.
However, Hawkesbury SES were called due to the difficult terrain and very steep embankment.
Flood boat rescue volunteers were called to transport the woman from the river to the Windsor Boat Ramp where paramedics were waiting.
She was treated by paramedics before being transported to Nepean Hospital.
