PUDDLES, the Hawkesbury’s reading river dragon, will visit Richmond Oval for the Children’s Reading Fun Day on her birthday, Friday, September 4.
There will be free morning tea, stories, music and dressups. Puddles will also share her birthday cake.
She is the mascot for Paint Hawkesbury REaD, a children’s early literacy program which encourages everyone to read stories to children, right from birth.
The program also encourages adults to stimulate children’s interest in reading by playing with them and making books fun with rhymes and songs.
These activities help children’s intellectual development and make them more ready for reading and writing once they get to school.
Puddles has already been visiting child-care centres and preschools in the Hawkesbury, even making a trip down-river to Wisemans Ferry.
Many children love Puddles and sit with her, listening to stories, looking at books, dancing and singing songs.
The popular river dragon celebrates her birthday on Richmond Park’s oval from 10am-12 noon.
If it is raining, the event will be held at the Richmond School of Arts, adjacent to the park.
All children and their grown-ups are welcome.
This is the third Children’s Reading Fun Day organised by Paint Hawkesbury REaD, so they want as many as possible to attend.
Come dance with Puddles on her birthday.
