Not wasting a thing: Hawkesbury Hampers’ Aaron Brocken, working at Remony Farm, says food scraps, green waste and animal manure could be recycled for use on farms instead of going to landfill. Picture: Geoff Jones
FOOD scraps, weeds and animal manure can all be recycled to make Hawkesbury farms healthier, Hawkesbury Hampers’ operator Aaron Brocken said.
Hawkesbury Hampers’ main business is promoting organically-grown fresh food in the region and getting it to restaurants or people’s tables at reduced prices.
Mr Brocken is using recycled waste to help turn a former horse arena into a market garden at Remony Farm in Kurrajong Hills.
‘‘It takes a long time to do this through composting, but it ties in with what Hawkesbury Hampers does,’’ he said.
