Injured Parramatta Eels player, Beau Champion battled it out with Greater Western Sydney Giants player Adam Treloar for charity event Dry July at Westmead Hospital on Wednesday, July 1.

The cross-code rivals went head-to-head seeing who could drink the most of a mammoth two-litre smoothie in two minutes.

Treloar won despite obvious difficulties, which he summed up afterwards as"harder than playing".

The challenge kicked off Dry July, a charity initiative that involves forsaking alcohol for the month to raise money and awareness for cancer organisations.

The event took place just outside the oncology ward at Westmead Hospital, and Eels player Champion praised the work done by all involved, saying: "Your work doesn't go unnoticed."

Champion, a 2015 recruit for the Eels, is out for the season after a picking up an ACL injury earlier in the season.

When asked about the injury Champion said: "It's coming along all right, just doing my rehab and trying to work myself back up".

He hopes he will be ready to go next season after only managing two appearances for his new club. He ruled out any comeback this season even if the Eels were to make finals.

"ACL injuries are a six month injury no matter what," he said.

With Dry July officially underway the Eels player admitted to one particular vice he'd like to forgo: "Cans of coke have been killing me lately so hopefully I can give them up for the month".
