AFTER a tough loss to Blacktown Workers the Windsor Wolves’s Ron Massey Cup team trounced Kingsgrove Colts at the weekend. Coach Brad Prior said before the match it could be a danger game for the Wolves, but the team was up for the occasion at WINJubilee Stadium, winning 52-12. The Sydney Shield side recorded its second draw in three weeks against the East Campbelltown Eagles, with a final score of 28-28. The team is in second place after the draw, while the Ron Massey Cup team is in fourth. The Wolves are back at home on Sunday for a double header against Cabramatta Two Blues. Cabramatta is in eighth place in both competitions.
HAWKESBURY enduro rider Jess Gardiner will have a final x-ray in Belgium this week before making a call about whether to race in the Enduro World Championship at the weekend. Gardiner broke her wrist on a training ride on May 31 and has been doing what little she can to speed the recovery process. Gardiner will consider racing even if her hand is not fully healed because she is second in the championships. If she is able to race she will because her hold on second place is slim but she might have to withdraw because of the injury.
FORMER Windsor Wolves players Lachlan Coote and Reagan Campbell-Gillard were both victorious in the NRL at the weekend. Campbell-Gillard’s Panthers comprehensively outplayed the Rabbitohs on Friday night, while Coote’s Cowboys won a close game against the Dragons. In the absence of Johnathan Thurston and Michael Morgan, Coote took on some of the kicking and playmaking responsibilities for the Cowboys. Campbell-Gillard started the match on the field, and made 133-metres with the ball in hand, and made 12 tackles.
ON SUNDAY Hawkesbury netballers Rhomee Gaffey and Alannah Taufa will represent Australia in an international indoor netball competition. The pair, who are best friends, will play in the World Indoor Netball Association’s Junior World Series, which runs from Sunday until July 18. They will play both New Zealand and South Africa in standard indoor netball and New Zealand’s six-a-side version of the game. The series will be played in Perth.
HAWKESBURY trainer Tony McEvoy had a winner at Rosehill Gardens at the weekend. Five-year-old gelding Shiraz won by oneand-a-half lengths in the 1100-metre handicap. The seventh win of the horse’s career netted $48,750 in prize money. Fellow Hawkesbury trainer Ethne Potowski also had a runner at Rosehill Gardens, which ran ninth in a 2400-metre handicap.
