HAWKESBURY endruo rider Jess Gardiner flew out to Europe last week, with the aim of competing in the penultimate round of the World Enduro Challenge in Belgium. Gardiner is still in a cast after breaking her wrist last month and has flown out in the hope of competing. It is too early to tell whether her bones will heal in time to hop on the bike next weekend.
THE Nor-West Jets lost for the second consecutive week, going down to the Western Suburbs Magpies at the weekend. The Jets, 4-10-34, were out-gunned by the Magpies, 12-6-78, in AFL Sydney’s division three. The loss sees them slip to fifth place. After some horror weeks, the fifth grade team defeated the Camden Cats at the weekend. Joshua Henderson kicked four goals and Ryan Johnston kicked three as the Jets finished 11-9-75 to Camden’s 5-10-40. The Jets will be back at the familiar confines of Bensons Lane on Saturday to host Balmain.
HAWKESBURY Triathlon Club hosted the inaugural Chris Horwood Memorial Duathlon at the weekend. Gordon Bell and Deana Horwood were the winners of the event, which was run in memory of former club member Chris Horwood. Horwood was a member of the club who died earlier this year.
HAWKESBURY’S Camokazis surrended a firsthalf lead to go down 198-142 at the weekend against the Illawarra Roller Derby League. The Camokazis were in the fourth match of the 5x5 Roller Derby Championship and playing for a finals spot. Depending on how results in the final round of the competition goes later this month, the Camokazis may make the finals. The Camokazis have a bye for the final round, so will need some luck to go their way. If the team does not make the top two of its division, it will play-off for third spot. THE Hawkesbury Jets have bowed out of finals contention despite beating the Central Coast Crusaders at the weekend. The Jets were in the hunt for the Waratah Basketball League division one finals, but would have needed some luck. The under-16s men had a win and a loss at the weekend to the Springwood Scorchers, while the under-16s girls are still undefeated.
