EIGHT days are all that’s left for Richmond’s phone and internet services to link to NBN.
On July 10 the existing copper network in Richmond, which has enabled telephone communications for decades, will be disconnected.
As the National Broadband Network rolls-out across Australia, optic fibre cable is replacing the old copper lines.
However, more than 1800 homes and businesses in Richmond have still not contacted their phone and internet providers to switch services to the new broadband network.
NBN spokeswoman Kelly Stevens said it was vital people understand that access to high-speed broadband was not automatic
‘‘Residents and businesses need to place an order to move their landline phone and internet services over to the network,’’ Ms Stevens said.
She urged those who had not yet placed an order for services to contact their internet provider or phone company now.
“We are committed to ensuring no one gets left behind and are particularly urging people with special equipment, including EFTPOS terminals and medical and security alarms which use a landline phone connection, to contact their provider immediately,’’ Ms Stevens said.
‘‘Customers do have a choice: they can switch to fast broadband or they can choose to make do with mobile solutions.’’
