Volunteers will be out in force across the Hawkesbury this Sunday with buckets in hand for the Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal.
MP Roza Sage, area chairman for the appeal, was at the official launch on Monday of what is the 50th appeal. Her area is the Hawkesbury, St Marys, Penrith and Blue Mountains zones.
Hawkesbury Salvation Army corps officer Nicola Poore, and Mayor Kim Ford were also at the launch, along with restaurateur Jarryd Faint.
Some volunteers will start collecting earlier this week before the official day on Sunday.
This year’s appeal hopes to raise $9 million nationally. A Salvation Army spokesperson said ‘‘people say ‘thank God for the Salvos’, but the Salvos say ‘thank God for you’ because without the public’s support we would not be able to continue our work.’’ If you miss the door-knockers on Sunday you can donate to the Red Shield Appeal by calling 13 SALVOS (137258), online at salvos.org.au, or in person at any Westpac branch.
