SOME of Sydney’s best sport shooters made the trip up the mountain to the Kurrajong Pistol Club at the weekend, to shoot at the club’s biggest meet of the year.
The club hosted the Combined Metropolitan Pistol Club Championships on both Saturday and Sunday.
The shooters competed in the 50-metre pistol, standard pistol and air pistol disciplines.
Fifty-three competitors came to the event, including Commonwealth Games gold medal winner David Moore.
Moore won the 50-metre pistol and 25-metre standard pistol disciplines in the A Grade.
Club secretary Steve Ryan said it was a great weekend for the club.
He also said the club was excited it had been picked to host a Rapid Fire event in July.
Mr Ryan said there were a number of people at the meet who had disabilities, which was pleasing to see.
‘‘In the last 18 months we have really tried to promote shooting as a sport for everyone,’’ he said.
‘‘People from all walks of life are involved in shooting and we also want to have more people with disabilities involved.
‘‘It is also a great sport for older people, because you don’t have to be very fit to be involved.’’
Mr Ryan said there was far more discipline involved in shooting than people realised.
He said it required a steady hand and plenty of concentration, and was a very safe sport, with strict rules and regulations governing it.
