Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium will host four roller derby bouts on Saturday, with teams coming from across New South Wales to play.
Hawkesbury’s own team, the Camokazis, will square off against nearby rival the Blue Mountains Free Spirit.
The games at the weekend will be the third round of the 5x5 Roller Derby Championships.
Teams from Canberra, Wollongong, the Central Coast and Newcastle will all travel to the Hawkesbury for their bouts.
The newest member of the Camokazis, Stacey Lindon, said she was excited for the clash against Blue Mountains.
Lindon, who is known as Viola Rollher when she puts her skates on, said it took her 18 months to reach the stage where she could take part in competitive bouts.
She had to make it through the ‘fresh meat’, or rookie stage, and then learn various skills and become more competent at roller derby, before earning her chance to be a true part of the Camokazis.
‘‘The time the training takes really makes the final feeling of making the team all the more worth it,’’ she said. ‘‘You want to feel safe, strong and confident on the track and the only way to achieve this is time, commitment and hard work. I know that the rest of the Kazis had taken roughly the same amount of time to reach player status.’’
