Don't bother making those boring ham sandwiches — Jamie Oliver's "squash it sandwich" is taking over.
Riverstone's St John's Primary School supported Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Day last Friday (May 15).
The day was created by the celebrity chef as a global campaign to put compulsory practical food education on school curriculums.
The school got involved by taking part in Jamie's classroom lesson where each grade in the school made one of Jamie Oliver's healthy and simple recipes.
School secretary Melissa Youell said she was extremely proud to have the school participate in such a great movement.
"It's a great opportunity for the children to learn that healthy food can be fun and isn't just boring steamed vegetables and greens," she said.
"One of the mothers has two daughters who attend the school and she was the instigator of the fabulous idea."
Riverstone resident and mother of two, Amanda McIntyre, said she and her husband enjoy cooking and occasionally have their daughters help out in the kitchen.
"By educating children about food in a fun and engaging way, we can equip them with the basic skills they need to lead healthier, happier lives, for themselves and their future families"

"My husband and I saw Jamie Oliver live a few months ago and we just love the way he makes cooking so simple," she said.
"What Jamie has done is created a global petition to call on the leaders and governments of all G20 countries to make practical food education a compulsory part of every school curriculum, which is essentially teaching them life skills."
Mrs McIntyre provides children with healthy food that is both nutritious and tasty.
"By educating children about food in a fun and engaging way, we can equip them with the basic skills they need to lead healthier, happier lives, for themselves and their future families," she said.
Year 3 teacher Charlene Saliba said the children completed several exercises before making the meal.
"They also wrote out a recipe procedure and plan and followed those steps to execute making the perfect Jamie Oliver squash it sandwich," Ms Saliba said.
