The strong historic link between the old Hawkesbury Agricultural College and Hawkesbury Show was honoured again at this year’s show when UWS Hawkesbury sponsored the show society to run the beef cattle judging.
President of Hawkesbury District Agricultural Assocation Phil Close said ‘‘we are very, very happy that the uni was the major sponsor for the show’’.
‘‘It’s an extension of the university and showground’s relationship we’ve had over the years. The land we’re on was part of the Ag College grounds,’’ he said.
The $8000 given to pay for judges and ribbons and other costs of judging the beef cattle was given after the uni’s vice chancellor Barney Glover indicated to Mr Close that the uni would be interested in helping the show society with its judging duties.
The other link between the uni and the show was Emeritus Professor Graham Swain, former deputy vice chancellor of UWS and former principal of Hawkesbury Agricultural College, who is also a life member of the show society.
