The show must go on they say, and that was certainly the case for the Hawkesbury Show, which kicked on over the weekend after the freak weather and flash flooding which swept through the region last week.
Attracting 10s of thousands of people from across the state, the 129th annual three-day event was deemed a huge success.
Families flocked to the Hawkesbury Showground in Clarendon from Friday through to Sunday to visit the largest regional agricultural show after the Sydney Royal.
There was a huge range of rides, delightful agricultural and horticultural exhibits, more than 100 stalls, showbags and industrial displays.
Hawkesbury District Agriculture Association (HDAA) manager Linda Beneke said the show was an important tradition that brought the district together.
‘‘This community event unites people to help celebrate our district’s vibrant culture, heritage, talent and agriculture,’’ Mrs Beneke said.
‘‘It’s pleasing to see we were able to pull it off despite the circumstances. We are lucky enough to have such a strong team working together and have valuable volunteers to help get the show up and running.’’ Mrs Beneke said Saturday was the busiest day with hundreds turning up straight after Anzac Day services.
‘‘There were twice as many people on Saturday than on Friday and Sunday.’’
Over the three days, local talent was shown off across the art, craft, cooking, horticulture and fruit and vegetable sections.
Other than the thrilling rides, the extreme sports shows and animal nursery were highlights, along with the baby animal petting zoo.
The D-Max Precision Driving and FMX Freestyle Motocross teams entertained the crowds with their mind blowing stunts and the Hawkesbury Gazette’s stage welcomed some of the district’s most talented artists.
Saturday night ended with a grand fireworks display which had the crowds in awe.
