A Daylesford family feared lost in the Nepal earthquake is safe and well, but hundreds of Australians remain unaccounted for.
Francis and Jen Comber and their two young daughters Rani and Neve were in the remote Tsum Valley, near the Nepal-Tibet border, when the 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit on Saturday.
Relatives had been anxiously awaiting news from the family, who left Australia last year for an extended trip through Asia, when they received a phone call on Monday telling them they were safe.
Victorian teenagers Grace Graham and Camille Thomas also survived the earthquake despite being injured by falling rocks in an avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border.
The former Trinity College Colac students, both 18, were travelling in the village of Langtang, nestled at the bottom of a valley surrounded by mountains, when the earthquake struck.
Ms Thomas described her terror as she felt the ground move beneath her. "It all started coming down. The snow and rocks, just everything, houses, everything," the Apollo Bay teenager said after being released from hospital. "It was pretty scary, pretty horrible."
Ballarat Courier journalist Eugene Duffy has been reported to be safe and well.
The tour company he was trekking with has contacted Duffy's wife Clare in Australia to tell her the group is all safe. "We are so relieved and happy," Mrs Duffy told the Courier.
The company told Mrs Duffy the group would retrace their steps to the town of Pokhara and wait there for a flight out.
Saturday's earthquake, the worst to hit Nepal in 80 years, came at peak climbing and trekking season in the Himalayas.
There are unconfirmed reports an Australian is among at least 19 people killed at Mount Everest's base camp in an earthquake-triggered avalanche.
Authorities have confirmed more than 850 Australians in Nepal are safe, but hundreds more remain unaccounted for. On Monday evening more than a dozen Victorians were still listed as missing on a website set up by the Red Cross.
Among those still missing is Ballarat teenager Darcy Mahady, who was on his first overseas holiday by himself. The 18-year-old is believed to have been heading to a music festival 240 kilometres from Kathmandu.
Several Victorians previously thought to be missing have contacted family members to report they are safe.
Richard Jaroszczuk, 22, was a day from base camp at Mount Everest when the earthquake struck. The Victorian reserve grade football player messaged his girlfriend on Sunday night to say he was safe.
"I'm safe. This is all I can send. Earthquake killed 1000s but I'm good. Please tell mum as I only have 30mins wifi and it's taken 25 to send this," his message said.
The family of Healesville newlyweds Kent Highgate, 56, and Karen O'Brien, 53, have also been told the couple is safe and well.
Family friend Cherie Turner said they were told by the couple's trekking company that the pair was unharmed. "We haven't heard from them, but Karen's daughter got the news that they were OK," she said.
Daylesford man Jed Nevill, 18, who was on a hiking holiday with two friends in northern Nepal, called his family after running into other hikers who had a working phone.
"Going 24 hours without hearing from him was pretty horrendous," his mother Shirlene Nevill said. "We're very relieved. Now we just need to get him home."
Michael and Anna Headberry are still waiting to hear from their daughter Jordana Headberry, of North Balwyn. Mr Headberry said he had spoken to someone who had been travelling with his daughter and believed she was not in the hardest-hit area. "He said she was safe, but that is all relative," Mr Headberry said.
