One of the wettest three day stretches in recent memory last week has caused havoc with sport in the Hawkesbury.
The ‘superstorm’ that terrorised much of the east coast of NSW from the Illawarra and south coast to the Hunter Valley brought 226 millimetres of rain to the Hawkesbury according to the WeatherZone website.
Tuesday saw 113.4mm of rain fall at Richmond, the 21st wettest April day in the area since records began in 1995, with a further 69.6 and 43.0mm falling on Wednesday and Thursday.
352mm of rain has already fallen in Richmond this month.
The Nor-West Jets Sydney AFL game against Penrith set down for Bensons Lane on Sunday was postponed to June 6 while Hawkesbury City’s Football NSW State League 1 fixture with North Shore on Saturday was also called off.
Hawkesbury district netball, the Windsor Wolves rugby league and Hawkesbury Valley rugby union all had the weekend off for Anzac Day.
The rain also turned much of Richmond Oval’s outer into a lake with surface water still visible on Monday.
Richmond Golf Club and Windsor Country Golf Club were also badly affected by the weather with several holes under water.
Hawkesbury Race Club will host their stand alone Saturday meeting this weekend and chief executive Brian Fletcher said the day was unlikely to be affected.
