Hawkesbury Show’s longest-standing stallholder, Elaine Mund, has been putting her generous fingers to good use by crocheting and making craft items for the masses since 1965.
The Wilberforce resident has been returning to the show for half a century and has been part of its fabric ever since.
She finds herself knitting and crocheting all year round for the show and finds comfort in working for others. The 81-year-old prides herself on her commitment and said the show was an event she looked forward to every year.
‘‘I have had the privilege of growing with the show and becoming closer to my community through it,’’ Mrs Mund said. ‘‘It’s like one big family, we all know each other.
‘‘Throughout the years, I have watched children grow to bring their children and grow to bring their children. They all know me but sometimes it’s hard for me to recognise the different generations. Either way, they always stop at my stall for a chat. It’s a very friendly atmosphere and I enjoy going back every year.’’
Mrs Mund is one of 10 stallholders who can boast being there since the 60s. There are now more than 100 stalls each year.
‘‘It was a whole different world back then where everyone was very close to each other. The crowds were a lot smaller and the venue was just enough to fit the community. We could recognise every one back then. As it grew, we all started to spread out.’’
