BLIGH Park Public School’s Anzac commemoration noted more than 100 years of Australian military history with a display of model planes and ships, old recruitment posters, service uniforms and a world map detailing Australia’s past and present military involvements.
On Wednesday the school held a special Anzac assembly, attended by military personnel, the Hawkesbury mayor, Kim Ford, and the local federal MP for Macquarie, Louise Markus.
The principal, Joan Westerweller, told pupils and guests that the centenary of the Gallipoli landing was a time to reflect on sacrifice.
‘‘The spirit of Anzac has been a driving force every since,’’ Mrs Westerweller said.
‘‘It represents a sense of purpose and direction.’’
Sergeant Brad Withers, from the Richmond RAAF base, said Anzac Day was about honouring the thousands of Australians who had lost their lives in war.
‘‘It’s a day we also honour those who still suffer from war,’’ Sergeant Withers said.
He and other military personnel also presented a personal letter of thanks from the RAAF base to teacher Linda Ferris, for having organised the Anzac display and for her teaching of Anzac history.
