Destructive winds and heavy rainfall will continue lashing the Hawkesbury and greater Sydney region until midday tomorrow, a Weatherzone spokesman said.
The Hawkesbury SES has been called out 28 times since yesterday, including two flood rescues and two road crashes.
Many roofs have been damaged and flood water is coming into some homes.
The SES has three teams out working today and expects they will be kept busy.
The Blacktown SES reported there was little damage in Riverstone, mainly because falling trees luckily missed direct hits on people’s homes.
It was 13.2 degrees this morning and is forecast to remain 15 degrees all day.
Strong winds, from 40 to 60km/h, are also predicted to continue today and overnight.
Richmond has recorded its heaviest rainfall since 1997, totalling 113 millimetres from 9am yesterday to 9am today.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a flood warning for the Lower Hawkesbury-Colo River and warned people living or working near rivers and creeks to watch the latest weather forecasts and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.
The Sackville and Webbs Creek ferry services have been cancelled because of rising waters.
Across the Hawkesbury, 2400 homes have lost power, including 659 in Kurrajong, 581 in Bowen Mountain, 526 in Kurrajong Heights, 262 in Kurrajong Hills, 155 in St. Albans, 127 in Colo Heights and 123 in East Kurrajong.
The weather has also closed Richmond TAFE and four public schools: Bilpin, Booral, Cattai and Maraylya.
In other reports, a fallen tree has blocked traffic in both directions on Bells Line of Road, Kurrajong Heights, about two kilometres west of Val Wheeler Drive.
Flooding has closed Rouse Road in Rouse Hill, Blue Gum Road in Annangrove, Pitt Town Road near McKenzies Creek in McGraths Hill and Cattai Ridge Road in Maraylya.
Flood waters are also affecting traffic in Cattai and Miller roads in Cattai.
A rock fall at Hawkesbury Heights on Hawkesbury Road’s S bends has prompted warning to motorists using the route to take care.
Motorists are also advised that road works will take place in Old Northern Rd between River and Wisemans Ferry roads from Wednesday to Friday.
Allow at least 30 minutes additional travel time.
Wisemans ferry will be out of service from 10am to 2pm from Wednesday to Friday due to replacement of the ferry mooring poles.
Dangerous potholes have also been reported around the Hawkesbury.
There is a pothole on Putty Road, past the North Wilberforce BP petrol station, which has caused flat tyres on three cars.
