Andrew Lohse, a smart middle-class kid from New Jersey, pulled a string to ensure his place at Dartmouth, one of America's elite eight universities, the Ivy League. He'd worked hard all through high school to keep his marks high and jumped through the right extracurricular hoops, but still his acceptance was in doubt.
