The Penrith Panthers unbeaten start to the NRL season ended on Monday night when they went down 20-12 to the Sydney Roosters.
Penrith trailed 8-6 at the break in a tight game before two tries to Roosters centre Blake Ferguson all but sealed victory.
A late try to James Segeyaro gave Penrith hope but the Roosters held on for an eight-point victory.
Penrith are third on the NRL ladder after three rounds and travel north to play Newcastle at Hunter Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 3pm.
Penrith’s Holden Cup under 20s team downed the Roosters 26-18.
Penrith’s 10-game unbeaten run in the NSW Cup stretching back to last season came to an end in the way of a 24-8 loss to Newtown.
