Residents on The Terrace at Windsor have expressed their frustration over shoppers dumping Coles supermarket trolleys on their street and around the area.
‘‘We don’t want our beautiful historical town littered with trolleys,’’ resident Mary Andonian said.
‘‘There’s an increasing amount not being picked up around Windsor and South Windsor. I spoke to Coles at Windsor and their head office before Christmas about this ongoing situation and was told there were no contractors to collect the trolleys and their employees would do it.’’ Agnes Banks resident Terry Munsey, who works in Windsor, said that every morning when he parked in the precinct around Windsor Riverview Shopping Centre he was ‘‘confronted by abandoned trolleys along the street and in parking areas’’.
‘‘I consider this a hazard to both pedestrian traffic and cars parked in the area,’’ he said.
Another resident, Emma-Jane Garrow, said she was embarrassed by the state of Windsor in general, with the trolley issue being the tip of the iceberg.
‘‘The presentation for business, tourism and the livability for residents is neglected,’’ she said.
‘‘Ratepayers are not being looked after. Our streets are a mess and our parks a disgrace.’’
Councillor Christine Paine agreed abandoned, uncollected trolleys were a problem across the area and said it was a regular occurrence beside her property on Fitzgerald Street; she had seen them in the river, and about 15 trolleys had been left in Kable Street for more than two weeks.
‘‘Perhaps they could look at a system like Aldi has in place where you have to put a coin in to use it,’’ she said. Cr Paine will bring a notice of motion regarding the dumping of trolleys to the next Council meeting on February 24.
