If you are comfortable around horses and have a few spare hours a week, Riding for the Disabled at Richmond is desperate for your help.
RDA Richmond’s Leone Howell said they had lists of disabled people wanting to learn to ride, but no-one to teach them. ‘‘We’re short about 20 volunteers,’’ she said.
If you are interested, the next intake of volunteer training is this Saturday, January 31.
Volunteers are needed Monday through Saturday between 9am and 2.30pm. You can help for a couple of hours or the whole day. The program needs leaders, sidewalkers, people to groom, saddle and warm up horses and organisers to help the lessons run smoothly.
Ms Howell said no experience was necessary and free training was provided for all volunteers who wanted to learn horse handling and disability support skills. ‘‘We promise you an interesting and rewarding experience and the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people with a disability,’’ Ms Howell said.
‘‘So come on down and join our fun, friendly and dedicated family of volunteers.’’
Richmond RDA is on UWS Hawkesbury campus. Enter via Londonderry Road. The centre is on the corner of Vines Drive and Clydesdale Lane on the campus. See UWS website for map.
