Queensland's fight community will raise black boxing gloves on their left hand as they gather at Friday's funeral for former national kickboxing champion Grant 'Bomber' Millwood.
Little over a month after winning his final fight at Logan with a broken bone in his left hand, Millwood was found dead in Canberra on January 17, aged just 31.
Though a cause of death is yet to be publicly declared, the heavy hitter who owned a record of 29 wins from 34 fights, was known for a love of partying and attacking life at breakneck speed.
Multiple world champion Angela Parr, promoter of his final bout, described Millwood's heavy punching style as reminiscent of Mike Tyson in a post on Facebook.
"He was like a caged tiger," wrote Parr, also wife of 10-time world champion John Wayne Parr.
"He was very scary in the ring and outside. He couldn't be tamed."
Millwood's funeral will be held 10.30am Friday at Mt Thompson Memorial Gardens, Nursery Road, Mount Gravatt East.
The gesture by fight friends to wear a single black glove and form a guard of honour is a reference to his performance in December's CMT fight at Logan Metro, where he defeated Jono Almond with a first round knockout.
"I cut him twice and broke his hand and he still kept coming forward," Almond said in his own online tribute.
Educated at St Laurence's College at South Brisbane and Clairvaux Mackillop College at Upper Mount Gravatt, Millwood was also a junior rugby league player with the Slacks Creek Lions.
He captured his first state and national titles fighting out of Fortitude Valley's Valhalla Stables, before moving to John Wayne Parr's Boonchu Gym and becoming a furious sparring partner of Nathan Corbett's at Urban Fight Gym.
For his last two fights he trained out of Scorpion Gym on the Gold Coast.
Intentionally controversial and abrasive, Millwood had struggled for a long time with knee injury before his recent successful return to the ring.
Grant was a son to Greg and Denise Millwood and brother of Rebecca and Monika.
