The state election campaign of Hawkesbury Labor candidate Barry Calvert, was launched on Saturday, December 6.
Attended by NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson, the event at Richmond East Court Restaurant also drew supporters and those who know Mr Calvert in his role as a Hawkesbury councillor.
Mr Calvert has been a Hawkesbury councillor since 1999, and is an education consultant at the NSW Department of Education and Training.
‘‘As a teacher, he educated many of the Hawkesbury’s sons and daughters, he knows the needs of this area like the back of his hand, and has unparalleled knowledge of local issues,’’ campaign director Leonie Wilbow said.
‘‘As an educator, Barry is particularly appalled by cuts to courses at Richmond TAFE College, he believes the Liberals’ plans will destroy our area.’’
Labor spokesperson for Macquarie Susan Templeman also attended the campaign launch.
“Barry Calvert is someone of enormous integrity, who has fought strongly for years, for local issues on Hawkesbury Council,’’ she said.
“At a time when the integrity of some conservative Hawkesbury politicians has been brought into question, Barry has stood out at all times as an honourable man.
“He has the Hawkesbury in his DNA — he understands the uniqueness of the area, and the importance of retaining its character.’’
