The Sydney Blue Sox have recorded a victory against ABL ladder leaders Adelaide Bite last night in the final match of their four game series at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The Sox won the match 6-5 in a close encounter, which saw play extended to 12 innings after scores were locked at 3-3 after regular play.

The Bite got off to an early lead, scoring one run in each of the first three innings, with Brandon Dixon leading the scoring offensive with a triple.

While Sydney had many attempts in the early stages of the game to put runs on the board, their batters couldn’t complete the run from third base to home.

However the Sox struck back in the eighth innings thanks to a walk from Tyler Bortnick with bases loaded, scoring three runs to level the match.

With the scores locked at 3-3 after nine innings, the match entered tie-breaker innings.

Sydney were able to keep the away side scoreless for two innings, but a pair of runs from Adelaide at the top of the 11th saw the Bite take a 5-3 lead.

But the Blue Sox were able to respond quickly thanks to an error by Adelaide pitcher Chan Moon, which saw Will Swanner and Michael Lysaught race to home to tie the game again, sending play to a 12th innings.

The breakthrough came at the bottom of the 12th for the Sox. With bases loaded and two outs, a single from Zach Shepherd was all that it took for Sydney to record the one run victory.

Despite the win, it wasn’t enough for Sydney to take out the series, having lost the first three matches earlier in the weekend.

The Blue Sox will now head to Adelaide this weekend for the return series and are now equal third on the ABL ladder.
