Hawkesbury artist, Penny Oates opened her first solo exhibition on the weekend, titled ‘Impressions in Ink’, held at Sassafras Creek Food and Design in Kurrajong Village.
Penny has taken inspiration from the natural landscape in the Hawkesbury area to create pieces that blend reality and dreamscape in a mesh of real and imagined worlds with her theatre design background playing into the textures and colours she loves.
Director of the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery and Museum, Diana Robson was the guest speaker on the opening night of the exhibition.
Penny has spent most of her career teaching high school students techniques and approaches to their own art making practice but has more recently, had the time to focus on her own practice after moving to Grose Vale with her husband, Darren, an established designer and maker of furniture.
As part of the Hawkesbury artist and artisan trail, Penny and Darren have opened a small gallery, Bellbird Studios.
Penny’s work is available to view until February 13, 2015 at Sassafras Creek Food and Design in Kurrajong Village.
■ Sassafras Creek Food and Design is at 83 Old Bells Line of Road, Kurrajong Village.
