Children under seven years-old will be excited to know there is a new place to play from Thursday, December 4, with the launch of the Kids Build Together centre in Richmond.
The centre features a variety of Duplo kits as well as other kinds of blocks for children from one-year old to seven-years old where they can build on walls and under circus tents.
Experienced educator Carolyn Galbraith of Bilpin, said she wanted to open the centre after seeing how much her own children loved playing with Duplo and other blocks.
“I wanted a place where kids and families could access a wide range of different Duplo sets, and where kids could create and interact together,” Ms Galbraith said.
“Having taught kids with and without special needs for over 15 years, I knew that children learn best when they’re making things that are important to them – and when they’re sharing their creations with others.’’
Parents are encouraged to bring their children to play in the centre to keep their minds occupied — and possibly make some new friends too.
‘‘Block play increases literacy and numeracy skills, as well as social and fine motor development ... it’s great for kids who have special needs and kids who are gifted, too,” Ms Galbraith said.
The opening day will also feature mini robot building using just two ordinary household objects, and Read & Build sessions.
