YEAR 6 student Kiara Ison isn’t sure how well she’ll run for her state at the PSSA national titles in Tasmania this week, but one thing she is sure of is how nervous she will be.
The Kurmond Public School student will compete in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4x100-metre relay for NSW.
“The sprints are my favourite event and it’s going to be very exciting to see how I go down there,” she said.
“I don’t actually know how I’ll go, but I’ll try really hard.
“I get nervous sometimes before I race and I’ll probably be nervous when I race there.”
Ison has been competing with Kurrajong Bilpin Athletics since she was eight and her hero is Olympic 100-metre hurdles champion Sally Pearson.
She hopes one day to have a go over the hurdles and emulate her sporting idol, but for now she’ll be out to win a medal down south.
Her personal best for the 100 metres is a slick 13.26 seconds.
“I think the 100 metres will be my best event and I think I’ll lower my PB,” Ison said.
“I want to be an Olympic runner, that would be pretty cool.”
