Richmond Country Women’s Association (CWA) has a fully restored hut in time for its Christmas street stall on Thursday, December 4.
It now has gleaming stainless steel benchtops to replace the previous timber benches, a new sign out the front and a new security flyscreen door to let in fresh air.
Restoring the hut was a lengthy process after Richmond branch president, Lynne Dunn, applied for a grant in July 2013.
Having to comply with heritage regulations, the group handed the work over to Hawkesbury Council, who then completed the project for them.
‘‘It was more of a general restoration than a renovation as that’s what it really needed — a make-over,’’ Ms Dunn said.
‘‘It is now in a liveable condition and we are quite happy with the outcome.
‘‘It is also a lot safer now, with an updated electrical system.’’
The hut began life as a wooden shed, which was rebuilt with concrete bricks in the 1950s.
Richmond CWA welcomes others to join. Activities include fundraising for the Salvation Army, Hawkesbury Living, CareFlight, Guide Dogs and Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands.
They also provide emergency relief and give $500 to a student of Richmond Public School who shows potential. The hut opens several times a year to sell craft and cookery items for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter and Christmas.
■ The Christmas Street Stall and re-launch of the hut are on Thursday, December 4, 9am-2pm, on Windsor Street, Richmond. For more contact branch president Lynne Dunn on 0408342366.
