Remembrance Day was observed in Richmond Park on November 11 with attendances by local schools and community groups.
Richmond RSL sub-branch publicity officer Tom Hamilton recited the poem, The Man I Never Met, about those veterans who survived the action of the Great War but died later as a result of illness and injury.
It said that for every one of the 60,000 soldiers who fell, another had their name marked by the Grim Reaper, who came for them in the end.
School students’ speeches noted that although they were too young to recall the sacrifices of a century ago and since, they benefited from them as they helped make possible the freedoms Australians enjoyed today.
Mr Hamilton said the sub-branch was pleased with the attendance at the service — about 200 people.
Tiarne Jurd from Colo High School delivered a moving poem A Tribute and Jorja King and Ben Donaldson delivered the address on the theme of Remembrance. The service was further enhanced by moving pieces from Hawkesbury Band and Hawkesbury Choir.
Organisers thanked everyone for attending the ceremony and reminded them next year was the centenary of Anzac Day.
