More than 750 people attended Richmond Swimming Centre’s free 50th birthday celebrations on Saturday.
Organisers said the sunny weather made the activities, which included a sausage sizzle and a jumping castle, more enjoyable.
Children played with beach balls and played on the giant water slide, while others improved their education about ocean rips, with the U-Rippa Wave Generator in the Olympic-sized pool.
Big crowds splash out at the 50th birthday celebrations.
Hawkesbury Community Nursery organised tree-planting, with customers helping to plant trees and bushes that should provide shade and beauty around the pool in the years to come.
More than 100 people also took home free plants offered by the nursery.
Hawkesbury mayor Kim Ford thanked everyone for attending the celebration.
‘‘It was wonderful to get such positive feedback from the community about the great pool facilities and the fun everyone had,’’ Councillor Ford said.
‘‘Residents came from everywhere to enjoy the day; from Kurrajong, Pitt Town, Ebenezer, Yarramundi and all around the Hawkesbury region.
‘‘The kids loved the 50th birthday cake and it was great hearing them sing Happy Birthday.’’
The mayor also thanked the Rotary Club of Kurrajong-North Richmond for cooking more than 700 sausages that day. He said he hoped that many people visiting the Richmond Swimming Centre for the first time enjoyed themselves and would come back.
The centre is located at East Market Street, Richmond.
The pool is open seven days a week from September to April.
After school swimming lessons are available in Term 4, 2014, Term 1, 2015 and School Holiday Intensive Sessions during the summer break.
