THE Richmond Players present Christmas carols and other songs devoted to the festive season in ways unexpected in A Very Special Christmas this month.
Players’ member Mon Lulan of Richmond said she loved the rehearsals and was looking forward to audiences’ reactions to the performance.
‘‘I love bringing laughs and smiles to people’s faces,’’ Ms Lulan said.
‘‘I’ve always had theatre in my blood and singing is food for the soul.’’
Bernadette Baran of Kurrajong has performed opera in other places and said Richmond Players provided a much-needed creative outlet.
‘‘I perform one of the fun roles in Special Christmas, it’s something I love doing,’’ Ms Baran said.
Tony Harrison of Warrimoo said at 73 he was the oldest Richmond Player.
‘‘This is my fifth show and it’s the first time I’ve sung solo,’’ Mr Harrison said.
‘‘It keeps me going and I love performing with young people.’’
Joe Joyce of North Richmond said he joined the Players because he wanted something more to do than work in his business.
‘‘I find singing a bit of a struggle, but acting is my first love,’’ Mr Joyce said. ‘‘I love it because you can portray what you’ve learned about people in fictitious situations... and explore the extremes of human nature.’’ A Very Special Christmas shows at the Richmond School of Arts, 26 West Market Street, Richmond, at 2pm and 6pm on November 8, 15, 22 and 29. Dinner with evening shows.
