RICHMOND singer-songwriter Caitlin Harnett launched her debut record The River Runs North in New York on Monday, after being invited to perform at the CMJ Music Marathon in late October.
The marathon is an American talent discovery event that’s been running for 33 years.
For one week each October CMJ features more than 1300 artists in more than 80 of New York City’s nightclubs and theatres.
Other performers at this year’s festival include The Kills, The Cold War Kids and fellow Aussie Courtney Barnett.
The former Bede Polding College student, who has been signed to Mushroom Music Publishing since she was 19, has spent much of the last two years travelling between Australia and North America.
She’s given showcase performances at major international festivals including NXNE in Toronto, Americana Music Festival in Nashville and the Northside Festival in Brooklyn.
Caitlin recorded her album in Ottawa, Canada featuring Canadian musicians such as Kathleen Edwards.
The River Runs North is available on iTunes and through her website and Facebook page.
Ms Harnett plans to launch the record in Sydney in December with her new band Shaky Town. Ms Harnett has been playing in local pubs and clubs since she was 14, and released two EPs and has appeared several times in the Gazette over the years.
