PREPARING for Hawkesbury’s bushfire season is essential, that’s why the Get Ready Weekend this Saturday and Sunday could be a life-saver for your family and neighbourhood.
As the campaign says: ‘‘Planning to make a plan is not a plan’’.
Hawkesbury Rural Fire Service Superintendent Karen Hodges said it was imperative residents make their survival plans now.
‘‘The 2014 bush fire season is shaping up to be a challenging one for the Hawkesbury area,’’ Superintendent Hodges said.
‘‘The time to act is now, not when a fire is at your front door.’’
Along with NSW RFS, Bunnings McGraths Hill is also getting behind the weekend by conducting DIY demonstrations and providing information on simple property preparation tips in the hope it will urge people to start preparing.
‘‘We’re grateful for Bunnings’ support in helping get the community ready for the bushfire season,’’ Superintendent Hodges said.
‘‘Unfortunately weather conditions are again pointing to a long hot, dry summer and the threat of bushfire is very real so being complacent is not an option.’’
More than 120 bush and grass fires spread across the Hawkesbury last summer causing threats to populated and isolated communities alike.
