THE Bligh Park Community Centre precinct, once a graffiti hot spot, has been transformed through a skate park, landscaping, walking paths, lighting, new furniture, exercise equipment and wooden artwork.
Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly and Hawkesbury mayor Kim Ford will join residents on October 18 in a free community event to celebrate the $120,000 upgrade as part of its Graffiti Hot Spot program.
‘‘We are investing in permanent solutions to stop the graffiti,’’ Mr Conolly said.
‘‘The Bligh Park Community Centre was a hot spot for graffiti because vandals targeted the buildings for tagging.
‘‘The project turned the site into a public space that would be used day and night. ‘‘Upgrading park amenities will increase foot traffic and ensure natural surveillance,’’ Mr Conolly said.
Council received an extra $10,000 through the state government’s Community Building Partnership Program for additional work.
Residents are invited to celebrate the upgrade at a community event this Saturday between 1am and 2pm.
There will be a free sausage sizzle courtesy of the Rotary Club of Windsor, activities for children, and the Hawkesbury Community Nursery will give away 120 plants.
