HAWKESBURY showed no signs of early season rustiness after demolishing Blacktown at Joe McAleer Oval on Saturday.
After knocking over the home side for just 155 a week earlier, captain Jay Dyball and Dale McKay resumed on Saturday morning with the Hawks needing just 70 runs with eight wickets in hand.
The two put on 90 to help secure the Hawks first innings points.
McKay made a classy 77 before being bowled as the Hawks passed the total four down and went about scoring quick runs to gain a further advantage in the hope of claiming an outright win.
But the fun was just about to start for the visitors.
Fast bowler Shane Mott was given the license to wreak havoc – and he was only happy to oblige for his skipper Dyball.
Mott hammered the Blacktown attack to all parts in his 77, which was scored off just 42 balls and included two fours and seven sixes.
The perfect match couldn’t be extended however.
Chasing outright victory, the Hawks could only manage two Blacktown scalps on a wicket which became batter-friendly.
Simon Keen made his second half century of the match to frustrate the visitors and help his side avoid outright defeat.
Dyball was more than happy with his side’s first performance in 2014/15, but knows that after a good win in round one last season before falling away that his men will have to be more consistent this season.
“It was a very dominant performance by my boys, which I am proud of,” Dyball said.
“Everyone executed their roles perfectly. It will be a good test next week against Randwick Petersham.
‘‘The boys are working hard at training.’’
