MORE than 500 Hawkesbury residents are expected to attend the 20th annual EarthCare Spring Fair on Saturday, October 11.
Held at the University of Western Sydney in Richmond, the fair aims to promote a healthy and organic lifestyle.
There will be cooking demonstrations, hands-on workshops, garden tours and talks as well as more than 20 fresh vegetable, fruit and food stalls.
The fair is part of the national celebration of Fair Food Week and Organic Week which involves events across the country designed to encourage health and well-being.
EarthCare convenor Eric Brocken said the Hawkesbury community could expect a jam-packed day.
There will be performances, art displays, healthy workshops and lots of local and international foods.
‘‘Attendees can enjoy local foods and produce, coffee, pizza making and vegetarian cooking demonstrations,’’ Mr Brocken said.
‘‘This year, we have special guests who will introduce international flavours including cuisines from countries such as Laos and France. There will also be German food served in traditional costume as part of Oktoberfest.”
Earth lovers will find themselves lost in a world of displays featuring organic growing, solar energy, alternative technologies, earth building, climate change and local bushland.
They can also get the lowdown on garden composting in a bid to learn how to maintain sustainable conditions.
Garden tours will also run across the whole day through permaculture vegetable gardens grown by the community.
Local musicians from the Chorella Choir and the Hawkesbury Ukulele band will be entertaining the crowds through the day.
The Piggery Studio Art Exhibition, alongside the fair, will be hosting their Spring Art Show with arts, jewellery and crafts on display and for sale.
■ Starting at 10am, the fair will run until 4pm at the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre on the UWS Richmond campus. Enter from Londonderry Road. Entry is by donation. Details: Email: Eric Brocken on info@earth care.org.au or call 0438 731 712.
